Making These Snowman Donuts on a Stick Educational
Who says playing with your food can’t be educational? Let the kids get involved with helping you make these and you can turn it into a fun learning project.
Counting:
- Have the kids count out each color of M&M that’s used, how many Rolos are needed, and the number of donuts needed for this recipe.
Color Recognition:
- Use this as an opportunity for kids to learn different colors. These snowman donuts on a stick use orange, blue, and yellow M&M’s. Have the kids sort through a bag to find the colors needed.
Reading:
- Print out the recipe and have the kids help you read it. They can learn new words, practice reading, and learn how a recipe is set up.
Measurements:
- For these skewer snowman donuts, we need 1/4 cup of chocolate chips. Have the kids help you measure these out.
- The fruit roll up can also be used as a fun measuring activity. Have the kids get a ruler out and measure the fruit roll up. Since the roll up needs to be cut into strips, they can practice cutting and measuring to get the strips even.
Another great way to incorporate these skewer snowmen into a learning activity is with the weather. While these snowman treats are made with donuts, real snowmen are made when it snows.
So, you can use these as a fun snow day activity and to talk and learn more about snow, anything related to winter, and other weather activities.
How to Make Cute Skewer Snowman Donuts

Ingredients:
- 12 mini powdered donuts
- 4 Rolos
- 1 Fruit Roll Up
- 4 orange M&Ms
- 4 blue M&Ms
- 4 yellow M&Ms
- 4 pretzel sticks (we like the thin ones)
- ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
- 4 wooden skewers
Instructions:
- To make the snowman scarves, unroll the Fruit Roll Up and cut it into four strips. Set those aside until needed.
- Slide three mini donuts onto each wooden skewer (sharp end of the skewer at the top). You want to leave a little room at the top so that we can make the snowman hat.
- Press one Rolo on the top of each skewer to make the snowman’s hat.
- Place one orange M&M in the middle of the top donut. This will make the snowman’s nose.
- Place one blue M&M in the middle of the center donut. One yellow M&M in the center of the bottom donut. These will make snowman’s buttons.
- Use the mini chocolate chips to make the eyes and mouth. We placed the chocolate chip point side down into the donut and used 2 for the eyes and 4 for the mouth.
- Wrap one strip of Fruit Roll Up around the snowman to make a scarf. Gently press the ends together so they stick.
- Break each pretzel stick in half and stick one half on each side of the middle donut to make arms.
