How to Make Winter Hot Chocolate Bombs

Supplies Used:

  • 2 oz disposable cups
  • Xacto Knife
  • Piping bag
  • Scissors
  • Cutting board
  • Small microwaveable bowls

This recipe will make one cup of hot chocolate.

Ingredients for the Winter Hot Chocolate Bombs

  • 2 oz white candy melts, almond bark or melting wafers.
  • 1 oz blue candy melts
  • 7-10 mini marshmallows
  • holiday sprinkles (optional)
  • mini candy cane

How to put the winter wonderland hot chocolate bombs together:

Melt the candy melts according to the package instructions. Try not to over melt because they can burn. If you need to thin out the melts, you can add a small amount of coconut oil until it’s a pourable consistency.

Place the plastic cups upside down on a cutting board. Using the xacto knife cut a line down the side of the cup.

Pour chocolate into the cups. As you pour, twist the cup so that you fully cover the entire thing. Then, turn the cup upside down on a piece of parchment paper so that the extra chocolate can drip off.

Depending on your chocolate.. medium (melting wafers, candy melts, or almond bark) you may find that some cups will be thicker than others and more sturdy.

Place the cup in the freezer for 7-9 mins to set. Then remove.

Add more melted chocolate on top of that, filling it 3/4 full. Return to the freezer for 18-25 mins so that it can harden.

Once it is set, turn the cup upside down on your cutting board and make cuts in the rim of the cup all the way around it.

Carefully, peel the chocolate off the cup, starting at the original long slit on the side.

Once the chocolate is released from the cup turn it right side up. Add a small amount of melted chocolate to the top, add mini marshmallows, peppermint sticks, and sprinkles.

Put the melted blue chocolate in a piping bag to “glue” on sprinkles and additional marshmallows.

Return to the freezer so that the Winter Hot Chocolate Bombs can set one last time, for about 7-8 mins.

Some helpful tips for creating these winter wonderland hot chocolate bombs:

  • If it cracks when unmolding or if just the top of it breaks you can hide it, you can smooth it out, add more melted chocolate, and top with marshmallows.
  • If the shell breaks completely, you can melt it back down and try again.

It may take a little practice to get them down. It’s definitely worth it though because they look amazing especially for winter parties.
