Chewy Butter Cookies with Sugar Sprinkles

These chewy Sugared Butter Cookies turn out so soft and chewy. You can use any kind of color you want for the sugar crystals or sprinkles and easily make them for any holiday.

Red or green for Christmas, gold for New Year’s, and so on. Mix and match your favorite colors if you want to! The possibilities are endless!

Ingredients needed to make these chewy butter cookies with sugar:

  • 2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of soft butter (room temperature)
  • 1 ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • egg
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons of butter extract
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Colorful sugar or sprinkles for rolling and decorating

Directions:

Cream together the butter and sugar for about a minute and a half. Then, add the egg and mix for an additional 90 seconds.

Add the butter extract and vanilla into the mixture and blend well.

Next, add the salt, baking soda, and baking powder and blend for an additional minute.

Lastly, add the flour and mix until the dough is soft and smooth. I prefer using a spoon for this part.

Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with cooking spray.

Scoop out balls of dough and roll them in colorful sugar or sprinkles and place them 3” apart on the prepared cookie sheet.

Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until they are golden brown.

  • Bake the lemon blondie batter for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Dust with powdered sugar when cool. Cut into 3” squares and serve!
