Ingredients needed to make these chewy sugar butter cookies:
- 2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of soft butter (room temperature)
- 1 ½ cup of granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons of butter extract
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- Colorful sugar glitter or sprinkles for rolling and decorating
How to make sugared butter cookies
Cream together the butter and sugar for about a minute and a half. Then, add the egg and mix for an additional 90 seconds.
Add the butter extract and vanilla into the mixture and blend well.
Next, add the salt, baking soda, and baking powder and mix for an additional minute.
Lastly, add the flour and mix until the dough is soft and smooth. I prefer using a spoon for this part.
Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with cooking spray.
Scoop out balls of dough then roll them in colorful sugar or sprinkles and place them 3” apart on the prepared cookie sheet.
Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until they are golden brown.
