Depression Era Peanut Butter Bread Recipe

When we were extremely broke, one of our favorite and easy snacks or breakfasts to make was peanut butter depression bread. All of the ingredients were cheap and you could get them just about anywhere, if they weren’t already in your pantry!

But you don’t have to be broke to enjoy this depression peanut butter bread! It makes a tasty snack or breakfast any time of the day and throughout the year.

5 Ingredient Depression Era Peanut Butter Bread

Ingredients needed to make great depression era peanut butter bread:

  • 2 c all purpose flour
  • ½ c granulated sugar
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 ½ c creamy peanut butter
  • 1 ⅓ c milk

How to make this easy peanut butter bread:

Preheat the oven to 330 degrees.

Line a bread pan with parchment paper.

In a mixing bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Add in the peanut butter and the milk. Mix well.

Pour the batter into the parchment lined bread pan and bake for one hour. After one hour poke the center of the bread with a toothpick to test for doneness. If the toothpick comes out clean, the bread is ready. If it has batter or crumbs clinging to it, allow the bread to bake for an additional 15 minutes.

Once the peanut butter bread has is done, allow the bread to cool in the pan for 15 minutes.

Once it is cooled, you can take the bread out of the pan. We like to let it sit for another 15 minutes or so before slicing.
