Making Marshmallow Treats for Holidays
If you are making this marshmallow rice krispie treat recipe for a holiday occasion, there are a few ways to change it up.
- Add festive food coloring. Instead of green, you can use red for Christmas, bright green for St. Patrick’s Day, pink for Valentine’s Day. You can also go with blue for the 4th of July, light blue or yellow for Easter, and orange for Halloween.
- Use holiday themed sprinkles. To add a little more holiday fun to the rice krispie treats, you can use themed sprinkles for your occasion. They have some really cool sprinkles for the various holidays and they would look great on these marshmallow rice krispies.

Ingredients Needed:
- 6 cups of Rice Krispies
- 4 cups of marshmallows
- 4 tablespoons of butter + a little extra for buttering a pan
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- Green food coloring (or whatever color you want for your theme)
- Sprinkles (We used these cactus flower sprinkles but any sprinkles will do)
How to make these easy rice krispie treats:
Line a 9”x13” baking dish with parchment paper and butter the paper. You only need about a tablespoon of butter and you can just spread it over the paper.
Melt 4 tablespoons of butter into a saucepan on low heat.
Add the marshmallows to the butter and stir until they are melted into the butter.
Remove from heat and stir in 4 to 6 drops of green food coloring and vanilla.
Immediately add the rice krispie cereal into the marshmallow mixture and stir until all of the cereal is well coated.
Spread the rice krispie treat mixture onto the pan and press the treats down to compact them.
Tip: We like to spread another piece of parchment paper over the top of the treats to keep our hands less messy.
Add your sprinkles to the top of the treats. Allow them to cool for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Peel the paper away before cutting them into squares or other fun shapes and serving.
How to Store Marshmallow Rice Krispie Treats
Marshmallow rice krispie treats can be stored in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
To keep them fresh longer, put the container in the freezer and they should keep for about 6 weeks.
