We feel like like we have to go from having fun and doing things we love to doing absolutely nothing. However, just because we are saving money, doesn’t mean we have to live a boring mundane life.

I know at the beginning of our journey, saving money wasn’t very exciting. It was boring. There was no fun in it at all. Seeing that money sit there and not being able to enjoy it was just depressing. Then, we learned how to make saving money fun.

5 Ways to Make Saving Money Fun

Let’s Face It.. It Can Be Difficult to Save Money

Many people feel that it can be difficult to save money. However, this doesn’t have to be the case! There are many ways to make saving money fun and exciting.

Saving money doesn’t have to be a drag. In fact, it can be quite enjoyable! All you need is the right approach.

Stick to Your Budget

This means no spending without looking at your budget first. If you want something that’s not on your list of approved expenses, then don’t buy it. Instead, wait until the next month when more money will be available for such things as clothes or entertainment.

If it sounds boring, don’t worry! Planning your budget can actually be fun. Here are some ways to create your budget:

  • Base your budget on your monthly income and expenses. This will give you a good idea of how much money you have to work with each month.
  • Create different categories for your expenses, such as food, rent/mortgage, transportation, etc. It was helpful for us to print out a budget planner and fill it out with all of the income and expenses.
  • Be realistic when creating your budget. Don’t expect to save hundreds of dollars every month if you only make enough for immediate expenses. Instead, try focusing on just saving what you can for an emergency fund to leave room if something unexpected happens (like losing a job).
  • Make sure there is some flexibility so that it won’t completely wipe out all your savings when an emergency comes up.

Set Aside Money for a Personal Goal

Saving money for specific goals is a great way to make it more fun and rewarding. It helps you focus on what matters most while still giving yourself some freedom in case something comes up.

There are a few different ways that you can save money for a specific goal.

  • One way is to create a savings account specifically for this purpose. This will help keep your money separate from the rest of your funds, so you’re less likely to spend it on something else! This was a must for us because if we knew it was sitting there every day and we saw it, we knew we would spend it. Putting it in a separate account and forgetting about it worked wonders.
  • Another way is to set up a budget and allocate part of your monthly income specifically for savings. This way, you know exactly how much money you’re working with and can plan accordingly.

You could also try a combination of the two methods. For example, have part of your money automatically transferred into a savings account each month, and then budget the rest so you know exactly what’s left to spend on things like entertainment or clothes.
